Statement by SHAN GOVERNMENT
on 4th Anniversary of UDI

(17th April 2009)

---------------------------------------------

On this auspicious occasion of the Shan Independence (17th April 2009) ;  we, the Shan Government and people of the Federated Shan States, renew our pledge and reaffirmationof our Independence and  demand the immediate and unconditional withdrawals of all SPDC colonists of all stripes
from our ancestral homeland.

We would like to warmly extend a hand of friendship and solidarity to our ethnic brethrens- Kachins, Chins, Karens, Mons, Rakkines and Karennis.  Awareness and sacrifice is essential for the unity which we seek to overthrow the yoke of Burmese Chauvinism and hegemony.

The UN and all civilized countries recognized the cruelty and the ruthlessness of the Burmese junta. Glaring human rights violations and sexual harassment are commonplace during their autocratic rule by successive military generals.

The military regime has denied us constitutional rights enshrined under the democratic principles in the Panglong Treaty of 12th February 1947 for almost half a century.

We whole heartedly support the US Women Senator’s recent petition to UN of 9th April 2009, which explicitly condemns the SPDC for the proposed shady 2010 elections, its dirty human rights record and the immediate release of all prisoners of conscience, including the SNLD leader Hkun Htoon Oo .
